Yamaha YZ 400 Installation Manual

Remove the seat, side panels, and gas tank.If you are color blind or even think you might be a little color blind, now is the time to getsomeone to assist you.  Successful installation of the kit requires good color recognition.  Youwant to go riding this weekend, don’t you?5.  Remove the kill switch.  Unplug the black/white wire and the black wire from the connectorsthat were under the fuel tank.6.  Install External Stator Assembly:  Since the YZ 400 has no lighting coils stock, lightingcoils need to be installed to provide power to run the dual sport conversion.  The external statorallows you to add 180 watts of lighting power to the YZ without impacting the stock ignition. The additional 11 oz. of flywheel weight makes the YZ more manageable in technicalconditions.A. Drain the engine oil. (Or lay the bike on its right hand side while doing this modification. )(The YZ stator assembly is bathed in the same oil as the transmission) .B.  Remove the shift lever.C. Remove the seven screws securing the left side case cover.  If you remove the cover carefully,99% of the time you can save the gasket.D. Remove the nut from the center of the flywheel.  The easiest way to do this is with an airimpact, but you can usually get it off by putting the bike in gear (second or third works betterthan first) , holding the back brake, and wrenching it off.
